SPGBK Black History Month Kick-Off 2023: Capturing the Essence of Umoja
- First-ever SPGBK Black History Month-inspired Watch
- Commemorates Umoja, the first of The Seven Principles of Kwanzaa
- Symbol of solidarity and representation of the Pan-African movement
January 27, 2023 - SPGBK is kicking off Black History Month with its first major watch release of 2023. In partnership with Belk, these North Carolina-based retail brands are celebrating together by releasing SPGBK’s first-ever Black History Month-inspired Umoja watch.
“When Belk asked us to create this watch I was honored they wanted our company to design this historic timepiece,” said Kwame Molden, CEO, SPGBK Watches. “We wanted our design to capture the essence of Black unity and pay homage to the Pan-African flag.”
This new watch commemorates the first of The Seven Principles celebrated during Kwanzaa, Umoja (which means ‘unity’ in Swahili). The tri-color silicone watch band consists of three equal horizontal bands of red, black, and green as a symbol of solidarity and representation of people of the African Diaspora and the Pan-African movement. The Umoja watch will be available exclusively in 50 Belk retail stores across the southeast and spgbkwatches.com.
